Jerylyn Curtiss

Simply You Senior Leader - Lancaster, Ohio

Simply You Family Member Since January 2013

Giving, Motivating & Inspiring

…three of the adjectives most mentioned when others speak about Simply You Shining Star Jerylyn Curtiss from Lancaster, Ohio.  Since joining Simply You in January, Jerylyn has made a significant and positive impact not only on those on her ever growing team but members of the Simply You Home Office Family as well!

It’s good to have friends in high places; even better to have their admiration and respect!

…and that’s exactly what Jerylyn has earned!  The outpouring of accolades for Jerylyn was shared with us by Simply You US President, Jim Turner, her Leader, Joyce Foy, and team member and Leader, Debbie Landrie.  Here’s what each told us about their admiration for Jerylyn.

“Jerylyn is a true student of direct selling and seems to have read every book from every motivational speaker possible.  She takes all the knowledge and distills into her own training and motivation and shares unselfishly with anyone who asks.  Her team loves her and she is a true inspiration to everyone she touches.” - Jim Turner, Simply You US President

“I have worked with Jerylyn for many years and have always admired her desire to stay true to herself and her beliefs. I find that when women do that in business, they genuinely are working with you to help YOU, not to help themselves.  Jerylyn is one of the most giving, down-to-Earth business women I have ever worked with, and when I was first joining Simply You, I was thrilled to have her take this journey with me!” - Joyce Foy, Simply You Leader

“Jerylyn is an outstanding leader.  Even though many of her team members are thousands of miles away, she still manages to motivate us and keep us informed of all that is happening.  She downloads information for us, makes videos to help with presenting jewelry and send messages of encouragement when we are getting ready for an event.  I feel so blessed to be a part of her team.” - Debbie Landrie, Simply You Leader, Ellensburg, Washington

Meet Lauren... the Future Mrs Ryan Cohen! ///

Share |

Knowing you were all as anxious as we were to find out more about the fiancé of our Executive Director, we interviewed his childhood sweetheart and soon-to-be wife.  With Lauren’s and Ryan’s shared passion for adventure, travel and family, meet Lauren during a one-on-one interview to find out all about Ryan’s future bride.

Simply You:   Where did you grow up?
Lauren:  I was born and raised right her in beautiful Toronto, Ontario.

Simply You:  Do you have any siblings?
Laruen:  I’m the youngest of four.  I have three older (and very protective) brothers.

Simply You:  What do you do for a living?Lauren:  Like Ryan, I’m also in the fashion business.  I am a Public Relations Account Executive, representing fashion and beauty brands in Canada.

Simply You:  Speaking of fashion, what are your favorite Simply You Pieces?
Lauren:  I absolutely love the Gabrielle Necklace, Banshee Ring, Avery Bracelet and the Dusk Bracelet!

Simply You:  What are your favorite clothing and handbag brands?
Lauren:  Because I'm so passionate about the brands I work with every day, I find myself wearing their looks each season!  My wardrobe is stocked with items from designer Rachel Roy. I also like mixing high/low pieces, so I'll pair a Joe Fresh blouse with Current/Elliott jeans, my favorite Mendocino leather moto jacket on top, and finally, a statement necklace by Simply You!

Simply You:  Tell us about your favorite and most memorable vacation.
Lauren:   It was a special trip last year with my mom.  We drove to Carmel, California and stayed at a breathtaking ranch where we hiked and practiced yoga on a mountain top!  We then traveled to Sonoma for wine tasting before heading to San Francisco to see the iconic sights!

Simply You:  On the topic of iconic cities, what are your favorite cities?
Lauren:  San Francisco, New, Miami and Paris!

Simply You:  Do you have a favorite quote?
Lauren:  I do, “everything happens for a reason”.

Simply You:  So where did you and Ryan meet?
Lauren:  Ten years ago at a Summer Camp in Northern, Ontario.

Simply You:  How did he ask you out for your first date?
Lauren:  Believe it or not, he asked me out over ICQ!  It was an instant messaging program that was very popular amongst teens at the time to connect on-line.  This was well before Facebook, Twitter and iPhones!

Simply You:  We understand you and Ryan share many of the same hobbies and interest.  Tell us about them.
Lauren:  There as so many so I’ll try and narrow it down to just a few.  First and foremost I would have to say it is our commitment to staying fit.  We make our early morning workouts a priority before our busy days begin.  Next would be our Movie Night!  We love to go to the theater on lazy Sunday nights (especially when it’s cold outside!).  We are both big “foodies” and I enjoy exploring food blogs for interesting recipes to experiment with at home.  Currently I am obsessed with kale and squash recipes!  Last, but not least, is hosting gatherings for our friends.  From the Super Bowl to the Grammy Awards, our place is always the spot to be!

Simply You:  The two of you seem like a perfect match!  What do you love most about Ryan?
Lauren:  His energy, it’s boundless!  He has such enthusiasm for life, it truly amazes me!

Simply You:  Tell us about your relationship with Ryan’s family.  How soon after the two of your started dating did he introduce you to them?
Lauren:  Ryan introduced me to his family on our very first date ten years ago!  The Cohen’s are the most welcoming, supportive and loving family I have ever met.  I am so lucky to officially be a part of it.

Simply You:  What values are important in your life?
Lauren:  Family, honesty, trust, dedication and passion.

Simply You:  Tell us about a time when Ryan surprised you the most.
Lauren:  Hands down it was the proposal!  I was not expecting a casual Sunday brunch with a girlfriend to transport into a five-hour scavenger hunt culminating with an “I DO”!!!

Simply You:  Speaking of the wedding, any details you can share?
Lauren:  We are planning a spring or summer 2014 wedding but as for the details, we’ll keep that secret for now! J

Simply You:  Last question.  Tell us one interesting fact about you.
Lauren:  I can tap dance…really well!

Our thanks to Lauren for spending time with us so we could get to know her better.  We wish her and Ryan the best of everything as they prepare for their big day!

Leave a comment below with your congrats, best wishes, and advice for the happy couple.

Melissa Anderson
Simply You Leader - Montgomery, IL
Simply You Family Member Since March 2013

Nominated by Advisor Kim Palinkas

I get by with a little help from my friends…
Simply You Advisor Kim Palinkas from Wheeling, Illinois eloquently expresses this very sentiment with her nomination of this week’s Shining Star, Melissa Anderson.  An Advisor from Montgomery, Illinois, Melissa joined the Simply You family just last month and has already made a significant impact on those around her.

Congratulations Melissa!
Melissa has been an amazing teammate.  She is full of energy and motivation.  When she joined Simply You I was so excited there was another Advisor in Illinois I friended her on Facebook right away.  I am so glad that I did.  She invites me to be a part of her team meetings and events.  She encourages me to be the best.  I believe you can't do well in this business without inspiration and motivation, and Melissa definitely does both for me.  She is actively growing her team, and her business.  I couldn't be more appreciative of having her as a teammate.  I really did luck out, and she is an amazing Shining Star!

Shining Star: ANNA ROHRBOUGH ///

SIMPLY YOU SHINING STAR:
ANNA ROHRBOUGH
Mukilteo, Washington - USA
Simply You Family Members Since January 2013

Her journey in direct sales has taught Leader Anna Rohrbough many things, including how to build a successful business.  But one of the biggest lessons she learned is that is not about the product you sell, it’s the experiences and bonds you create with those you meet along the way.

Simply You:  How did you learn about Simply You?
Anna:  I learned about Simply You through a peer of mine.  She was looking at the opportunity for herself and was looking to me for feedback.  As I did some research and started finding out more information I quickly realized I was getting excited about the opportunity and I almost instantly knew I was going to join Simply You.

I had more questions to ask and things to think about but I knew from the beginning I was going to be a Simply You Leader.  I kept asking myself… why wouldn't I want to be a part of a new company with a once in a lifetime Ground Floor Opportunity.  I went through the risks and rewards and all I could see was how the potential was so great.  I did not, nor do, come from a fear based life.  I think any time we are faced with a situation that has a little bit of risk in it, personal or professional, I think this is the chance for true growth in your life.  I took the risk and now love every part of my decision!!!

Simply You:  What factors contributed to your decision to join Simply You? Anna:  The most intriguing part was that I had the opportunity to be in on a Ground Floor Opportunity from the beginning and would be able to have input like I never had before.  As I educated myself more about this company I became aware of Trevor Cohen and Giftcraft.  I became more confident about the opportunity and support that a fairly new company would have from a man who had built a company to be named One of Canada’s 50 Best Managed companies.

Also, I cannot sell what I don't believe in and I saw the quality of the company and I believed what I was told that customer service and the quality of the product was one of the top priorities of Simply You.  I now know this to be true!

Simply You:  What early challenges or concerns did you face and how did you succeed in overcoming them?
Anna:  First, getting the motivation back to book parties.  I believe this industry is all about Booking, Selling and Recruiting no matter what company you represent or what you sell.  However if you don't BELIEVE in your company then you will NOT be self-motivated to Book, Sell or Recruit.

No incentive is going to get you over that obstacle.  It takes effort to make a business happen.  So once I joined SY I was so excited about the opportunity ahead of me and the way I was being treated - I WAS Motivated.  I emailed, face booked and called (yes I actually called people) and  told everyone about my new opportunity.  I sent letters and really became an advertisement of happiness and joy.  It radiated off of me!  People were interested and intrigued.  I quickly went from 0 bookings to 17 on my calendar!!!    Again it took work and persistence and it still does but I have already made a difference and will continue to do so in all aspects of the business.

The next obstacle was reevaluating how to manage our family schedule again.  With two kids in soccer and basketball, I'm like a taxi service some days.   Between my kids and my very supportive husband (who works more than 60+ hours a week), I really had to talk to all of them about this new commitment!  My 11-year old son helped me get over this obstacle.  He told me that ‘he knew I was happiest when I was working and touching people’s lives so it was okay if I missed some soccer games!’

Simply You:  To what do you attribute your success?
Anna:  I think it is that I believe in the power of jewelry to empower women.  For me, in a party environment, it’s about how am I going to empower that person in front of me.  I think all fashion is about bringing out the best in someone.  I truly look at a person and try and think about what might make her smile.

I know how it feels to have little kids and not get dressed some days.  I also know how it feels to be dressed up in an office and feel invisible.  I know how to change that for women.  I educate them about the power of their choices and how one choice can change their day.  I show my customers how one ring or one simple necklace can lift their mood, bring a smile and even make them more productive.

It's a powerful thing, the power of a compliment.   That is what I bring to my customers - the power to create the environment they want to live in every day.  I strongly believe that wearing jewelry isn't about the ‘big’ events in our life.  I believe it is about expressing who we are everyday of our life.  Some days it’s a tee-shirt and jeans with a pair of earrings.  Others it’s an event at an auction with an attention getting bracelet.  It is an expression of who we are in that moment, who we want to express to the world at that moment.  I share all of this with everyone that invites me too.

I love continuing to learn new tricks and new fashion tips and I love learning how to inspire women to be their best.  As I continue, I know I am growing and becoming who I am meant to be.  I aspire to inspire women to empower themselves.  Through Simply You I am able to bring this into the home environment with a laid back party atmosphere.

I believe it's not about jewelry it’s about how that jewelry makes us feel.

Simply You:  What are your Simply You goals?
Anna:  Big and little.  My ‘Little Goal’, the one I am focused on every day is to keep the balance in my life between my family, friends and business.  I have been in direct sales for 5 1/2 years and many times I have gotten a little too competitive with myself.  Feeling like I had to prove myself to others or in reality, to prove to myself that I could be better.  In the past the easiest way for me to do this was through personal sales.  This is not my focus now.  Don't get me wrong, I still want to continue to do an average of 6-8 shows with average sales at $750-$850 but I want to build others up to do the same.

My ‘Big Goal’ is centered around helping other women by giving them inspiration, the tools and guidance they need to become their own definition of a successful business person.  We have the opportunity to bring this empowering feeling to all our team members.  I want to empower each team member to create financial security and inspire them to manifest their own dreams.  I want all of us to be a support system for those women that want this enough to take ACTION.  We are here to share your successes and celebrate your failures (yes celebrate failure because that is when true growth happens). My team building goal is to have a room full of women who feel empowered and are taking action to create the business they want and that fits into their lives.

By being a part of Simply You I believe we have the opportunity to create abundance and happiness in all of our lives and those around us.
